Festive Textiles

We’ve been making up Christmas decorations (tis the season) and love the way fabric can be used to create a festive energy.

Textiles make wonderful decorations because you can easily clean them, they pack up small, last for years and timeless design never dates! So you should plan to get many years and hopefully decades out of your Christmas décor.

We have created a FREE download of a metre of Christmas textile sewing projects.

RECOMMENDED FABRIC: Twill, Soho, Byron, Roma Linen

INSTRUCTIONS: Download the file and then upload it to our fabric creator, select the fabric you wish to print and we’ll custom print just for you.

WHAT’S INCLUDED

  • A Christmas tree wall hanging
  • Bunting
  • Door wreath and bells
  • Table runner

The sewing is pretty simple as we wanted to make it easy for anyone. You will need access to a basic sewing machine and iron. We’ve gone into some general details about construction for each item.

CHRISTMAS TREE

  • Double fold and stitch the sides and bottom of the hanging.
  • Fold over the top by 1cm
  • Then fold it again by 3cm to create a pocket for a dowel to go through
  • Pin the pocket then stitch across

BUNTING

  • You can sew the edges of the bunting with an overlocker
  • Or, you can use pinking shears and clip the edges of the bunting to avoid fray.
  • We used binding tape available to purchase buy the metre and sewed an 80cm start to the tape before binding the top of the bunting together one panel after the other

DOOR WREATH AND BELLS

  • Double fold and stitch the sides and bottom of the hanging.
  • Fold over the top by 1cm
  • Then fold it again by 3cm to create a pocket for a dowel to go through
  • Pin the pocket then stitch across

TABLE RUNNER

We wanted the table runner to be a year round favourite, have a festive vibe, yet work well for any dinner party. We’ve done this through the use of pattern and colour and omitted iconic Christmas prints.

You can sew a runner by double fold and stitch the edges or you can sew it with another piece of fabric the same size and turn it through.
